We hold regular monthly fishing evenings at the club to provide our members with a forum to discuss and share their fishing stories, meet fellow fishers, and provide information that may be of interest and assist in enhancing the fishing experience. If fishing is your thing, come down and join us every third Wednesday of the month at 7pm. Each night generally follows the following format:
All members and their guests are welcome.
Annual Photo Competition Prizegiving
30th November 1600 hrs.
Prizegiving for the fishing section Inaugural Annual Photo competition for this year.
Come on down to the club and celebrate those members who are out there doing it and taking advantage of the resources on our doorstep.
All club members and guests welcome – you do not have to have attended any fishing section meetings nor must join the fishing section to attend.
We are hopeful of having past speakers and sponsors attend to make this a memorable day, and would love to see you there.
This competition is being run to encourage members and their families to get out and enjoy the marvellous resource we have on our doorstop by taking a photo of your catch and entering this in the competition.
Everyone has their preferred fishing grounds, however the success or otherwise of those grounds compared to other areas are always open to debate.
Some areas are better at producing fish at certain times of the year, others only produce a limited number of species - e.g. on the sand off Paekakariki you are likely to catch snapper and kahawai, mainly over the summer. Hunter Bank is the more likely spot for Kingfish etc.So for this competition we are asking you to indicate the area you were fishing in when you caught your entry by giving us the corresponding area number on the map. Results will be collated and shared at the prizegivings.Areas:
Mana
Fishermans Rock
78m Rise
Waireka Point
Hunter Bank
Paekakariki
Kapiti
Outer Sounds
Inner Sounds
Rule 5 requires that photos of fish caught during the month immediately prior to that month’s close off date will be need to be verified by either a date stamp on the image or readable image meta data to be valid.
Most cameras and phones add timestamps. To check your photos, proceed as below. If you need to change your phone or camera settings, Google search can help you to set this up.
Windows 10 and 11 shows the meta data when left clicking on the image.
To be a vaild entry the date taken must be visible and within the month the entry is being submitted for (i.e. from the Thusday immediately after the Wednesday night Fishing Section meeting until midnight Sunday immediately before the next Fishing Section meeting
If the meta data does not show when clicking on the image, proceed as follows:

Entrants enter the annual competion via the entries to the monthly competition.
Each month entrants can enter one photo per category.
Each entrant can select one photo per month to be entered into the Annual Photo Competition when submitting their monthly entries. Each entrant can have up to 2 entries in each category.
Once an entrant has 2 photos in a category, they may swap one of those entries only once up to the Annual Competition close off date. This is over and above the one entry per month.
So there is an element of strategy that must be considered when submitting your photos:
We have decided on this scoring system to reward members who are keen fishermen and are out there doing it all year, as well as encouraging others to get out there and target fish they may otherwise not consider.
On the score sheet example the entrant has submitted an entry into every category in the first month to ensure they have a counting score. If they catch two bigger fish in the following 9 months, the first biggest fish is an ordinary entry, the second can be entered by using the ability to swap one entry in each category only once throughout the competition.
That swap entry is extra to the monthly entry (i.e. the month the swap is invoked, 2 entries may be submitted).
It may be an entrant has 3 photos to swap in 3 categories in a month, then they could enter 4 photos that month, and so on.
